Complete entrance formalities at the National Park gate (1,830 m) and ascend through untouched forest to the Maundi Crater clearing (2,700 m). Rest and enjoy the forest’s beauty or explore Maundi Crater’s volcanic remains. Camp at Mandara Hut.

Begin with a steep forest ascent, revealing grassy moorland and potential views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Ascend through moorland to reach Horombo Hut (3,720 m). Capture mesmerizing sunrises and sunsets with Kibo’s glaciated dome nearby.

Embark on an excursion towards the base of the lesser-visited Mawenzi peak. Enjoy striking views of Kibo and the path to Gillman’s Point. Spend a second night at Horombo Hut.

Gradually ascend to the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, reaching Kibo Hut (4,700 m) by midday. Rest and prepare for the summit push.

Commence your summit ascent around 1 a.m., reaching Gillman’s Point by sunrise. Descend swiftly, returning to Horombo Hut for the night.
