Overview

Mount Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania, is Africa’s tallest freestanding mountain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its history is as rich and diverse as its breathtaking landscapes. Formed over a million years ago through volcanic activity, Kilimanjaro holds cultural significance for the indigenous Chagga people, who have inhabited its slopes for centuries. Its name, “Kilimanjaro,” is believed to be derived from Swahili and could mean “shining mountain” or “mountain of greatness.

When to Visit?

The best time to visit Mount Kilimanjaro is during the dry seasons, which typically occur from late June to October and from December to February. These months offer clear skies and stable weather conditions, making it ideal for trekking to the summit. Avoid the rainy seasons, which occur from March to May and from November to early December, as they can bring heavy rainfall and muddy trails, making the climb more challenging.
