Embark on a thrilling adventure up Mount Meru, Africa’s third highest peak and Tanzania’s second highest mountain, towering at 4,568m within the breathtaking Arusha National Park.This expedition offers not only a chance to conquer a majestic summit but also an opportunity to encounter the diverse wildlife inhabiting the park.
Mount Meru serves as an excellent acclimatization opportunity before tackling Mount Kilimanjaro, making it a must-visit destination for trekkers.
Elevation: 1,387m to 1,500m Distance: 10 km Hiking Time: 4-6 hours Habitat: Montane Forest Our journey commences with a drive from Arusha/Moshi to the Momela Gate, where we undergo registration procedures before setting off with a ranger escort. Along the trail, keep an eye out for various wildlife species, such as elephants, zebras, giraffes, and monkeys. The lush montane forest canopy is also home to diverse bird species. After a 4-6 hour hike, we reach Meriakamba Hut, our first campsite, where we’ll rest and enjoy dinner.
Elevation: 2,514m to 3,570m Distance: 8 km Hiking Time: 3-5 hours Habitat: Forest and Moorland Today’s trek takes us from Meriakamba Hut to the Saddle below Little Meru. Despite being short, this steep ascent offers spectacular views of the Meru Crater and the Ash Cone. After lunch at Saddle Hut, we have the option to summit Little Meru (3,820m) for breathtaking sunset views.
Elevation: 3,570m to 4,565m to 2,514m Distance: 5 km up to 13 km down Hiking Time: 12-14 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Moorland and Montane Forest We commence our summit push in the early hours, ascending steeply to Rhino Point (3,800m) and Cobra Point (4,350m) before reaching the summit (4,566m) in time for a mesmerizing sunrise, with a chance to glimpse Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. The descent offers breathtaking vistas along a narrow ridge line before returning to Momela Gate, where our transfer awaits to take
