3-Day Great Migration Special: Ndutu & Ngorongoro Crater

The Rift Valley & Tree-Climbing Lions

Your adventure begins with a morning meet-and-greet with your expert driver-guide in Arusha. After a brief briefing, you will hit the road toward the Great Rift Valley to enter Lake Manyara National Park.

Though smaller than its neighbors, Manyara packs a visual punch. The park is defined by its massive shallow soda lake, which covers two-thirds of the area.

• The Experience: Enjoy a scenic picnic lunch before diving into a game drive. Keep your eyes peeled for the park’s legendary tree-climbing lions, a rare behavioral phenomenon unique to this region.
• Wildlife Highlights: You will weave through groundwater forests to spot baboons and blue monkeys, then out onto the grassy floodplains to see elephants, giraffes, and thousands of pink flamingos skimming the lake’s surface.

Overnight: Dinner and rest at your chosen lodge/camp in the Manyara/Karatu area.

The Heart of the Great Migration

After breakfast, we journey into the Ndutu Area, situated between the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Southern Serengeti. This is the stage for the Great Migration between December and May.

Ndutu is characterized by vast acacia woodlands and short-grass plains that turn lush green during the rains.

• The Experience: This is a full-day wilderness odyssey. You are here to witness the Calving Season, where thousands of calves are born daily. This abundance of life draws in Africa’s top predators—lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas—resulting in thrilling, unscripted wildlife action.
• Wildlife Highlights: Beyond the massive herds of wildebeest and zebras, look for the smaller treasures: Thomson gazelles, bat-eared foxes, and colorful birdlife around Lake Ndutu.

Overnight: Dinner and relaxation at your chosen lodge/camp near Ndutu.

The Garden of Eden

We start early today (07:00 AM) to descend 2,000 feet into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the world’s largest inactive volcanic caldera.

Because the crater walls create a natural enclosure, the wildlife here is incredibly dense and fearless, allowing for spectacular photography.

• The Experience: You will spend the morning exploring the crater floor. It acts as a self-sustaining ecosystem often referred to as “Africa’s Garden of Eden.”
• Wildlife Highlights: Keep your camera ready for the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, and the rare Black Rhino). You will also see hippos lounging in the pools, huge bull elephants with massive tusks, and vibrant flocks of flamingos at Lake Magadi.

In the afternoon, we ascend the crater walls and begin the drive back to Arusha, marking the end of an unforgettable Tanzanian journey.

Drop-off: You will be dropped off at your hotel in Arusha or the airport for your onward journey.
