The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and less crowded trails on Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting from the western side of the mountain, this route offers stunning views, diverse landscapes, and excellent acclimatization opportunities.
Begin your adventure with a drive to Londorosi Gate on Kilimanjaro’s western side. After registration, we drive to the Lemosho trailhead. In muddy conditions, the trailhead may be inaccessible, adding extra hiking time. After a picnic lunch, embark on a 3–4 hour hike through the lush montane forest. Along the way, you might spot Black and White Colobus monkeys or signs of elephants.
The trail ascends through the Hagenia zone, transitioning from forest to open landscapes. Enjoy your first views of the majestic Kibo Peak. The day includes hiking up and down ridges, reaching a high point of 11,500 ft before descending to camp.
Traverse the Shira Plateau’s heath zone, passing through volcanic terrain. Stop for lunch at the Scott Fisher Memorial Camp, dedicated to the legendary Everest guide. Continue to Moir Camp, located in the upper heath zone. Optional acclimatization hikes can be arranged, depending on weather conditions.
Ascend into the alpine desert, hiking past Lava Tower at 14,300 ft. After a short stop to enjoy the volcanic scenery, descend into the picturesque Barranco Valley. This day is excellent for acclimatization due to the “climb high, sleep low” approach.
