13-Day Relaxed Safari & Zanzibar Retreat: Tanzania is a land of superlatives—the highest mountain (Kilimanjaro), the largest migration (Serengeti), and the best beaches (Zanzibar). But seeing it all doesn’t mean you have to rush.
This exclusive 13-day itinerary by Kilinyota Safaris is designed for the traveler who appreciates a slower rhythm. unlike standard tours that rush immediately into the bush, we begin with a few days of acclimatization in Arusha. Explore hidden waterfalls, spot rare monkeys in Arusha National Park, and soak up the local culture before embarking on the legendary Northern Circuit.
From the endless plains of the Serengeti to the turquoise waters of Zanzibar, this is a journey where luxury meets leisure. Travel privately, travel slowly, and experience Tanzania exactly the way you like it.
Your journey begins at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). As you exit the terminal, a smiling Kilinyota Safaris guide will greet you: “Karibu Tanzania!” (Welcome to Tanzania).
We will transfer you directly to your lodge in Arusha, the safari capital of the country. Tonight is all about landing and relaxing. Enjoy a dinner under the stars and breathe in the fresh African air. You have arrived.
After a long flight, there is no need to rush. Today is yours to acclimate to the East African rhythm.
Wake up slowly to the sound of birdsong. You can spend the day lounging by the pool with a cold drink, or if you feel curious, we can arrange a City Tour of Arusha. Visit the vibrant Maasai Market to buy your first handmade souvenirs, or explore the Cultural Heritage Centre. This is the perfect day to reset your internal clock before the adventure truly begins.
Today, you get your first taste of the wild! After breakfast, we take a short drive to Arusha National Park.
Often overlooked, this park is a hidden gem. It offers spectacular views of Mount Meru and (on clear days) Mount Kilimanjaro. It is one of the few places where you can spot the acrobatic Black-and-White Colobus Monkeys leaping through the canopy. Keep an eye out for giraffes, zebras, and colorful flamingos in the Momella Lakes. It’s a peaceful, scenic introduction to Tanzania’s wildlife.
Today, we trade the vehicle for a bit of fresh air on foot. We recommend a guided nature walk to the beautiful Mount Meru Waterfalls.
Hike through lush greenery, listening to the sounds of the forest, until you reach the cascading water. Feel free to dip your toes in the cool stream! Afterward, enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by nature. If you prefer a cultural experience, we can visit a local coffee plantation to see how Tanzania’s famous Arabica coffee is grown, roasted, and brewed.
Now, the “Big Safari” begins. We leave Arusha and head to Tarangire National Park.
Famous for its massive herds of elephants and ancient Baobab trees, Tarangire is a photographer’s dream. In the dry season, the river acts as a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Watch as wildebeest, zebras, and impalas gather at the water’s edge, while lions wait in the shadows. The sheer number of elephants here—sometimes up to 250 in a single area—is unforgettable.
We travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, descending onto the endless plains of the Serengeti National Park.
For two full days, you are in the heart of the action. The Serengeti is home to the largest concentration of predators in Africa. Your Kilinyota guide will use their expertise to help you track the Big Cats—Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs. Whether it’s the Great Migration (season dependent) or the resident wildlife, the scale of this park will leave you speechless.
Today involves an early start for a highlight of your trip: a game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater.
This UNESCO World Heritage site is a natural enclosure teeming with over 25,000 animals. It is one of the best places in the world to see the Black Rhino. You will have a picnic lunch on the crater floor, surrounded by hippos and zebras, before we ascend the rim in the late afternoon. The views from the top are simply breathtaking.
We drive you to the airport for your flight to the tropical paradise of Zanzibar.
Leave the dust of the savannah behind as you soar over the Indian Ocean. Upon arrival, a Kilinyota representative will transfer you to your beach resort. The shift from “Bush” to “Beach” is magical—the air is humid, smelling of salt and spices.
You have two full days to enjoy the island life.
On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and perhaps a last swim. Depending on your flight time, our driver will transfer you to Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ) for your flight home.
You leave Tanzania having seen it all—from the forests of Arusha and the plains of Serengeti to the reefs of Zanzibar—all at your own perfect pace.
