Tanzania is a rewarding family destination when the itinerary respects attention spans. The parks are not the problem — the driving between them is, and that is a planning decision.
Choose parks with short transfers
Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro highlands sit close together, which keeps drive days under a few hours. Adding the Serengeti works well when you fly one leg rather than drive both ways.
Pace the days
Two shorter game drives with a long midday break at the lodge beats one relentless day in the vehicle. Pools, walking trails and cultural visits give the afternoons variety.
Ages and what to expect
Most camps welcome children from six upwards, and some family suites accept younger ones. Walking safaris and balloon flights usually set minimum ages, and the crater descent is long, so we build alternatives for younger travellers.
A private vehicle is not a luxury here
With children it changes everything: you stop when they need to, leave when they are tired, and the guide can pitch the day at them rather than at a group of strangers.
Finishing on the coast
